We're currently developing version 2.0 that has branching and merging (including merge tracking) on the roadmap. The reason that you get the error about the out-of-date version of Subversion is that Ankh is built on Subversion 1.4, and your Tortoise beta on 1.5. We currently only have daily builds available that link against Subversion 1.5. You can check those out at http://ankhsvn.org/daily/ One thing to remember is that at this moment we don't have a good uninstall for the 1.0 client. This will be done in the near future.
